How to Discover Your Passion

February 24, 2018 Posted by Inspired Talks Team Uncategorized No Comments

You might have heard from people that if you want to be successful just do what makes you love it, simply means follow your passion. Do the things that make you want to get up early in the morning. There’s only one thing missing and that is Discovering Your Passion.

Everyone has certain areas of interest. May be you love to play video games, or you love to draw pictures, but enjoying playing video games isn’t the same as spending thousands of hours designing your own.  Your passion has to be something you would work exceptionally hard for. So what do you do, if there is nothing you feel that engaged about?

The best approach to finding your passions is actually fairly simple:

First try doing a lot of different things, see what you enjoy the most. The biggest obstacle to overcome is a narrow vision of what you can do.  If you are not passionately interested in anything, try to cast a wide net to look at dozens of different activities. Staying safe and familiar is the reason you’re bored, so now is the time to experiment.

Dabbling is key to the art of finding what you are passionate about. Dabbling means dedicatedly trying to do something for 3-6 months. Obviously, this amount of time isn’t enough to master anything, but it is enough time to get over the sharp learning curve in the beginning.

If you don’t have anything in your mind that makes you want to wake up early and sacrifice leisure for, you should start dabbling. Find new activities completely outside your comfort zone you can do for a few hours a week, and commit for at least three months. If after three months you find that it’s not something which excites you, then you should move on to the next project.

Sometimes the problem with a passion isn’t the activity, but the goal. One of the friends loved to paint, and she did a lot of paintings, but it wasn’t until she saw that people actually made money out of painting. She started exhibiting her art and now she is a happy painter, she makes money out of her passion and she travels the world to exhibit her art.

To dabble in experiences is equally significant to dabbling in activities. Start meeting people from different backgrounds, talk to them, listen to their life stories. Read different books that you normally don’t want to read. Randomness increases the chance that one of your interests will be sparked into something more.

Always Look for More, don’t get settled on only one thing, dabbling is a continuous process. Committing yourself to one goal is good, but that should still leave time for different experiments. If you’re always dabbling, you have many different passions you can do interesting work from. They key is to not tolerating boredom.

Discover your passion and live the life you want to live. It will make you feel happy and contended.
