How to Become the Best Version of Yourself

We all want to be thought of as great assets for the organizations we work for, but if we really want to fulfil our career aspirations, then we need to foray ourselves to be the best that we can be!

After all, if we only do the minimum essential for ourselves, we probably won’t get very far. So, if you’ve set your goal for a very high career growth or may be to get the promotion you’ve always desired, the below tips would make it really easy for you to achieve your target.

  1. Be a Great Communicator

Being able to communicate well – in person and in writing – is an necessary skill in every workplace. But, it’s one that is often forgotten about or taken very casually by most people. The ability to express yourself articulately can make the difference between getting noticed and being flouted. Write a bad email and all anyone will remember about you is your poor grammar. But write one that is clear, concise and interesting, and you’ll find that people will respond to your emails quickly and positively.

  1. Nurture Your Work Relationships

Interpersonal skills are as significant in the workplace as technical skills. These kind of “interpersonal skills” can help you to collaborate, communicate, motivate, increase productivity, manage conflict, solve problems, and network. When you have good working relationships you are more happy and engaged at work. Also, positive and healthy workplace relationships can help you to avoid burnout, exhaustion and even loneliness.

  1. Listen Patiently and Carefully

Listening and understanding is very important if you want to succeed at work. It can help you to take in information, learn from others, build relationships, and take direction. You  might easily get distracted by emails and other minor tasks, maybe you just aren’t paying enough attention to the person who’s talking to you. Hence, active listening is one of the ways you can improve your ability to listen and understand. It involves making a conscious effort to listen not only the words someone is saying, but the key messages that they are trying to express through those words.

  1. Know How to Work With Your Boss

It is true that very few are lucky to have bosses that they respect, like and admire. But, mostly you may have the boss, for whatever reason, you just don’t find motivating enough to admire or to gel with. In such cases, it has a vital impact on your productivity and happiness. But, after all you have to work with that boss, so you need to find out a way to make that relationship work for you. Your boss have several other people to manage and so many other things to look after, so his or her relationship with you may not always be at the top of his list. But, it should be at the top of your list, because you want to make yourself better and go up in the career. The key is to adapting to your own working style to suit it. Find out more about your boss’s preferred management style, then, adapt your own working style to suit it.

  1. Prioritize Your Goals

Everyone can do a set of work or tasks in a day. With so many tasks on your shoulder, it’s easy to get distracted and lose focus from your main goals. Begin your day by prioritizing your To-Do List, and focusing your attention on the top three items on your task list. This helps you to manage your time and energy effectively, and to concentrate on the objectives that matter the most. And, if you’re really overburdened, don’t be afraid to ask for help, to delegate tasks, or even to say “no” sometimes to tasks which are not on your priority list for the day.

  1. Get Out of Your Comfort Zone and Challenge Yourself

If you feel confident and comfortable in your job, it means that you’re doing it well. But, if you are finding it all too easy, you might begin to feel bored and unfulfilled. You can keep going like that for sure, but this won’t improve matters in the long run. To make your way forward you need to challenge yourself. To start with you should set yourself some new goals, learn new skills, get training or courses which would help you do better in your job, take more responsibility, try doing things which you were not doing in the past. You need to become a self-starter, this way you’ll get the chance to broaden your skills, and to think in a different way. It may even open up new and exciting opportunities to work on different projects and with different set of people, and this will give you more happiness and sense of fulfilment.

  1. Remember the Bigger Picture

Most people never analyse how their work is adding up to the value of the organization and the revenue. If we simply understand how the work that we do benefits our organization can improve our performance. It adds purpose to our work, helps us to prioritize our tasks more effectively, and enables us to identify tasks or areas of the business that can be made more efficient. It’s never too late to learn a new skill. Learning is a lifelong process, and there is always something new to learn for everyone. In fact, building up your knowledge and skills is often a lifetime pursuit.

  1. Set Aside Time for “Deep Work”

Today we have so many different distractions like emails, social media, office gossips, unwanted meetings, untimely weather changes, traffic, power outage, and so on. All of these things might distract you to keep your focus on the most important work you have to do. So, keep your mobile phone away for a while when you are working, if possible keep your phone on silent mode, and make a rule for yourself that you will check your phone and communication after two hours and till then you will completely focus on the work you are doing. Once you have this practice you will find that your concentration level and productivity has significantly increased.

  1. Learn from Your Mistakes

We don’t want to take responsibility of our mistakes, instead we try to blame someone else for that mistake. And trust me blaming others won’t help in any way. Best way is to accept your mistake, learn from it, and move on with more confidence.

  1. Be Yourself

Most of time many people pretend to be someone else than they are. Everyone has a capacity, skill set, energy level to do things, and no one can do everything. Sometimes to please people we say yes to everything, which can be exhausting, confining and demoralizing, it also hold you back from reaching your true potential. So, its much better that you stay true to yourself, stay true to your values, stay true to your beliefs, stay true about your ideas and expressing them. Once you do this, you will feel more confident, energetic, and more happy. It will also give you a reputation for integrity, and help you to earn the trust and respect of your peers. Yes, it may mean “going against the rain” and taking the harder paths sometimes. But it also allows you to live a more authentic and, ultimately, more happy and rewarding life.

I hope these tips would help you to be a better and more evolved version of yourself.
