Life is about setting and achieving meaningful and exciting goals. To do this, we need three things – Time, Energy and Money. However, the reality is that most of us, at any given point in time, have two (or in many cases, one) of these three.
- In our teens and 20s, we have the Time and the Energy but we don’t have Money.
2. In our 30s and 40s, we have Money and Energy, but we don’t have the Time.
3. And in our 50s and 60s and beyond, we have Time and Money, but we don’t have the Energy.
The result ? Many of us feel deeply unfulfilled, regardless of the Phase of the Life-cycle we are in. The solution ? We have to break this cycle.
We have to do whatever it takes to create more Time for the meaningful activities in our 30s and 40s. By examining our lives, going on regular retreats, focussing on doing the most important things first, identifying the mission critical items in our life, by slowing down and smelling the roses, by letting go of generic time wasters and the unproductive activities and toxic people that many of us manage to clutter our lives with.
Similarly, we have to prepare ourselves for our 50s and our later years by investing in our Mental and Physical Health, which in turn will give us more Energy. By eating well, keeping ourselves fit through a balanced program of flexibility and strength and endurance and by thinking positive thoughts.
The sad part ? Most of us don’t do much in these areas. I certainly am terribly guilty of being very casual about my health. A few people I know are hopeless time managers ~ always LBDF. Many of us behave like we will live forever and the shit (aches and pains, diabetes, heart attack, strokes, surgery, stressed marriages, draining relationships, career disruption etc) happens only to other people.
Never too late to reform, people. Get working on maximising your ENERGY and managing your TIME so you can enjoy whatever MONEY you have !
How ? Many hints above. And you have read this far. Means you are smart enough to figure it out.
